Davis Marketing Services is the result of one man's long and successful career in consumer marketing. Chuck Davis got his start back in the 1970s creating advertising for a chain of record stores (remember those strange black vinyl discs?). Since then, he has worked for companies large and small and in the process developed valuable insights into what makes for effective and memorable marketing communication. (See below for details.)
1992 - Present
Davis Marketing Services

In the spring of 1992, I decided to capitalize on my 20-year career in marketing communications by setting up my own advertising and sales promotion consulting service. During that period, I have handled everything from graphic design and copywriting to buying media and 4-color printing. Notable recent project assignments have included:
Kenwood Electronics 4-Color packaging & user documentation for 'MoodMaker', a software product linking computers & home entertainment systems
Syncronys Software Brochure promoting the company’s popular SoftRAM
memory utility.
Office Star Products Create & manage advertising & PR program for noted office seating manufacturer
Toshiba America Sales brochures for the Tecra line of notebook computers.
Siemens ICM Multi-element user documentation package for cordless telephone line, including Quick Start Guide & Owner's Manual.
1983-1990
Corporate Communications Manager
Sanyo Fisher (USA) Corporation
Chatsworth, California

Recruited into this $500 million subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Co. (a $10 billion energy and electronics concern) in 1983 as Sales Promotion Supervisor. Within the first year, my copywriting and project planning skills enabled the company to cut the cost of its sales promotional material (catalogs, spec sheets, price lists, etc.) by over 50%. Promoted to Sales Promotion Manager in 1985 and became actively involved in producing the company’s trade shows, point-of-sale displays and sales meetings.

In 1988, I was promoted again to Corporate Communications Manager, reporting directly to the Chairman. I was responsible for administering an advertising and marketing services budget of over $10 million as well as overseeing a staff of nine. I also directed the efforts of a variety of outside agencies and suppliers in the preparation and implementation of all national advertising, sales promotion and public relations programs. My department’s activities were geared toward supporting the sale of the company’s consumer electronics and home appliance merchandise as well as two separate trade divisions (industrial video
and commercial air conditioning.)
1979-1983
Account Executive/Copywriter
Deulofeu (del-a-few)-Wilson Advertising

Los Angeles, California

Joined this agency specializing in retail and business-to-business advertising to solicit new accounts and help manage the activity of existing clients. During my first 18 months, I generated new billings in excess of $1,000,000, accounting for one-fourth of the agency’s total sales volume. I was also directly involved with developing successful creative strategies and copy for a broad range of companies, including:
Walt Disney Productions An innovative direct mail package used to introduce educators to one of the company’s new audio/visual learning programs.
Mattel Electronics A comprehensive product catalog introducing retailers to Intellivision,
a striking new concept in home video entertainment.
Camp Beverly Hills A colorful and involving 16-page mail order catalog which moved this
2-store fashion retailer into a lucrative new profit center.
1975-1977

I was part of a management team that had left Wherehouse Entertainment to establish a new chain of retail music stores. Spent the first year opening and managing two of their retail units before being asked to manage their overall advertising program. Duties consisted of working with company principals, 22 store managers, local newspapers and radio stations as well as major record labels in managing an ongoing retail advertising schedule.
